BARNES WALLIS SUITE

Created out of two bedrooms the Barnes Wallis Suite was officially opened by his daughter Mary and is in fact the original master bedroom from the 1800s when Scafell was a private country house. This very spacious suite with bedroom including a king-size bed, designer bathroom and its own living room features some beautifully restored furniture, great designer finishes, a Honister Slate bathroom, two LCD digital TVs, iPod dock and four large sash windows looking out over the gardens to the Mountains.  Relax in your own private living room and soak up the best views from the house.

Sir Barnes was a regular visitor to Scafell from the 1920s until the 1970s and loved to walk the fells with Lady Wallis and his family. On wet days he would use a drawing board in his room to work on his engineering designs. Of course Sir Barnes was most famous for inventing ‘Upkeep’ the Bouncing Bomb immortalised in the 1954 war epic The Dam Busters.  Having had one of Britain’s greatest inventors stay here what better name for his favourite room than The Barnes Wallis Suite.
