The stunning

LAKE DISTRICT

The Scafell Hotel nestles in the heart of Rosthwaite village in Borrowdale valley, surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery in England. Nearby villages and hamlets include Stonethwaite, Seatoller and Grange. The hotel really is ideal for walkers to explore the Lakeland fells or just to ‘get away from it all’.

The market town of Keswick is only 6 miles away and if you want to leave your car, there is a local bus service which runs regularly throughout the day. The road to Keswick takes you on a scenic trip past Grange bridge and along the shores of Derwentwater to the town centre.

Keswick is a lively town with a good mixture of shops, parks, bars, cafes, restaurants, galleries, a cinema, museums and more. There is the much appreciated and loved Theatre by the Lake, as well as the famous Keswick Pencil Museum. The pencil was first made in Keswick following the discovery of Graphite in Borrowdale.

At the lake shore you can take a cruise round Derwentwater, a rowing boat to one of the islands, or even a motor boat. The launch can also drop you at one of the many jetties around the lake – the nearest being Lodore – and then enjoy a walk back to The Scafell or catch an open top bus to enjoy the beautiful valley scenery.

Alternatively, head further down the Borrowdale valley, through Seatoller and over Honister Pass. At the summit of the pass is Honister Slatemine, shop and Skyhigh cafe. Honister run Mine tours daily and the more adventurous can climb the Via Ferrata or take a trip down the zip. Head down the other side and to beautiful Buttermere and round to Newlands valley then back to The Scafell via the far side of Derwentwater.
